3 steps to your story!

Writing is easy!

....Once you realize what your barriers are.

Do any of the following statements sound familiar?

  • "I don't have time to write."

  • "I need to earn an income."

  • "Once the kids leave the nest (or I retire, or...), then I can dedicate myself to the creative process!"

  • "I am exhausted!"

These are simply excuses not to do the thing. The proof?

Entire novels have been written in 5 minutes a day.

These excuses typically hide the real reason you're not writing, which could sound like the following:

  • "What will *they* think of me when they read about my life?"

  • "Who am I to write a book?"

  • "I don't have the accolades to write about this topic."

  • "My story has already been written! It sounds just like this other book I read!"

  • "I'm not really that passionate about it, anyway."

Here's where I come in:

First, we figure out your Why.

This is usually much deeper than the first answer that comes to mind. I help you identify that deeper why and use that anchor as a reason to begin.

But that's rarely enough to keep you going.

We will also identify exactly what wants to be accomplished. Often it begins with the idea for a book or a screenplay or something like that. But a lot of times the goal shifts as the writing takes place. You'll learn to hold the goal loosely while continuing to take steps toward it.

Second, we figure out what feels good and what feels icky about the writing process. This is individual for each of us and can require some handholding as you figure out your unique strategy to getting words on the page!

Third, I work as a consultant to help you navigate your next steps. For some, that's publication. But for many, that's not exactly what wants to take place. Sometimes, it's a recipe book for the family, or a journaling experience that simply wanted to unfold. Depending upon your specific goal, I help you navigate those next steps.

Why choose me to be your writing coach?

I have been journaling since the age of twelve. It's helped me navigate a rather complicated life. I know how to get words on the page, while navigating parenthood, a career, marriage, etc. Very few instances in my life have kept me away from my journal or the creative writing process.

My first book, Brinley Discovers Santa, was published by a Traditional Publishing Company in 2015. Through this process, I learned a lot about contracts, royalties, marketing strategies, and the publishing industry which I use to help clients decide whether this is the route for them.

I self-published my next book, The Mango Tree, and found the process to be amazingly simple! I learned what parts I appreciated about the traditional publishing process, and which parts I preferred having control over myself. I immediately self-published my third and favorite title, The Tortoise and the Flair, because the self-publishing process was so incredibly easy!

In 2018, I participated in a vanity publisher's compilation. Vanity Publishing is a process to be very cautious with. VPs can be very expensive and offer very little. But with this story, I found it to be interesting. I paid $50 to have a 1000-word story published in their compilation, Inspirations, alongside100 other authors. The contract stated at the end of a year, royalties would be distributed between those authors, and our contract would be finalized. I made about $247 on that title.

Because of these experiences I understand the intricacies of each style of publishing, and understand when and why an author may like to go a particular route. There's no shame in any of them. They each serve a purpose. But you do need to know what you're getting into when you approach publication.

Additionally, I have worked with dozens of authors who have accomplished their writing goals. I am confident that you will reach your full writing potential because when you're my client, it becomes my mission to help you get there!

If you've had a writing project that's been calling to you, reach out! I can help you untangle those barriers that are holding you back so you can move toward your project in a way that feels authentic, fun, and that takes hardly any time out of your day!
